LOOKING FOR QUALITY EMPLOYMENT: Frequently Asked Questions
What visas, work permits or registration schemes do I have to apply for?
Since May 2004, workers from the EU have been able to work and live in the UK without needing a work permit or visa but they will need to register with the Worker’s Registration Scheme and obtain a National Insurance Number.
Whilst recruiting workers from Poland, Eastern Europe and other EU countries is a relatively straightforward process, there are certain issues that employers should be aware of:
Workers’ Registration Scheme
From 1st May 2004, most nationals of the new EU member states (except Cyprus and Malta) who wish to work for more than one month for an employer in the UK need to register under the Worker Registration Scheme.
Within 30 days of you starting work in the UK, you must register with the Home Office under the Workers’ Registration Scheme. EER Associates will guide you through this process and assist with paperwork and applications.
EER Associates will hold a copy of the completed application form on file, until the Home Office notifies you that they have been registered. We will then pass all the copies on to your new employer to keep on file.

How do I register for a National Insurance Number?
New workers arriving from Eastern Europe who have not worked in the UK before must apply for a National Insurance Number ASAP. EER Associates will help and support you through this process by arranging appointments at your local Job Centre. Until you receive your number your new employer can pay you by using a temporary National Insurance Number.

What about the living accommodation and travel arrangements, how is it all arranged?
As part of EER Associates service to you and your new employer we organise and manage your travel arrangements to the UK and your accommodation once you arrive.
Upon offer and acceptance of a position, travel arrangements will be made immediately for your journey to the UK.
For most positions, travel from Poland, Eastern Europe or other EU countries can be arranged within a matter of hours and you could be on your way within a week. You will be supplied with their travel details (arrival date, time and location) as quickly as possible.
We will arrange to meet you on your arrival in the UK and settle you into your accommodation.
We will have organised your accommodation before you arrive and our stringent controls ensure that there will never be more than 2 people sharing a room, all our accommodation is centrally heated and fully furnished.
You will have money deducted from your weekly wage to cover your rental and living costs. We will carefully explain before you arrive in the UK exactly what will be deducted and how much you can expect to pay for rent, heating etc.
